KAFFEE BANKROTT, 2007/08

The people pictured in Kaffee Bankrott make their living by selling "Strassenfeger," a street newspaper for the poor and homeless, in Berlin's underground. Taking its name ("Bankrupt Cafe") from that of a shelter/cafe popular amongst the Strassenfeger sellers, the series shows the respective living situations of these individuals, most of which are short-term. The project aims to confront the audience with the stories behind each person, and was completed by installing the portraits as large-scale posters in the advertising space of the Rosenthaler Platz underground station, between December 2008 and January 2009.
